Two Carlton Academy Trust Primary Schools shortlisted at Tes School Awards 2026

We are incredibly proud that two of our primary schools have been recognised on a national stage after being shortlisted in the Tes Schools Awards 2026.

Thorpe Primary School has been shortlisted for Primary School of the Year, while Marshfield Primary School has been shortlisted for EYFS Setting of the Year. Marshfield Headteacher Zara Kearns has also been shortlisted for Headteacher of the Year (State).

The Tes Schools Awards celebrate the very best teachers and schools from across the UK and received a record number of nominations this year, making these achievements even more special.

The shortlisting’s follow an exceptional year for both schools, including outstanding SATs results and further recognition through the 2026 T&A Education Awards.

Adrian Kneeshaw, Chief Executive Officer of Carlton Academy Trust, said:

“I’m incredibly proud. These shortlistings reflect the consistency of high-quality provision across the Trust and the commitment of staff to securing the best possible outcomes for pupils.”

Paul Mennell, Headteacher of Thorpe Primary School, added:

“I’m incredibly proud that our small village primary school has been shortlisted for a Tes Schools Award. Following our recent outstanding SATs results, it really does feel like the cherry on the cake. It means a great deal to be recognised alongside some of the very best schools in education.”

Zara Kearns, Headteacher at Marshfield Primary School, proudly shared:

“This recognition is a whole-team achievement. The EYFS shortlisting means a huge amount and reflects our belief that getting the very start of a child’s education right makes all the difference. I feel lucky to work with a team who bring that vision to life every day. The headteacher nomination feels quite surreal and is very much a reflection of the collective effort and culture we’ve built together as a school community.”

Since launching in 2009, the Tes Schools Awards have become one of the most respected awards programmes in education, celebrating the achievements of schools and staff across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Our schools are among just seven from the Yorkshire region to be shortlisted this year, having been recognised nationally for their excellence.
